Residential Move

The cost of your move is based on the type of relocation you are planning.  Each different type of move whether local, intrastate, international or storage has its own rules, regulations and pricing structure.
Local Move
MRT (maximum rate tariff) is published by the N.C. Utilities Commission and all movers within the state are to abide by these rules and regulations.  Movers within the state transporting household goods must be certified by the commission and display their "C" number on all vehicles.
Tariff Features
  • Moves of 35 miles or less are billed at hourly rates.
  • Travel time is in addition to labor time.
  • Packing performed by the mover prior to the move is based on published rates and packing performed the day of the move is based at an hourly rate plus container.

Intrastate Move

All moves within North Carolina are subject to the tariff published by the N.C. Utilities Commission.  This MRT (maximum rate tariff) establishes the maximum rate a mover can charge for their services.

Key Features

  • Rates are based on weight and distance.
  • There are established charges for any services provided by the mover.  Example: packing, unpacking, appliance service, extra labor, extra pick up or delivery, storage in transit, excessive stairs and distance carry, elevators.
  • There are established charges for bulky articles.  Example: motorcycles, big screen TV, riding mower, and article over 400 lbs.

Interstate Move

The cost of an interstate move is directly related to the following factors -

  • Distance of move
  • Weight of household goods
  • Packing and unpacking performed by carrier
  • Liability coverage
  • Off loading to smaller truck (shuttle)
  • Moving piano, organ
  • Large and bulky items
  • Overtime (weekends or holidays)
  • Extra stops
  • Fuel surcharge
  • Insurance surcharge
  • Origin and destination charge based on cost factors of that area

International Move
